Dustin Johnson’s Difficult Day

Dustin Johnson thought he had a 7-foot putt to win the PGA Championship. But then after missing his par putt for the victory, Johnson was surprised to find out he had been assessed a two-shot penalty for grounding his club. And instead of a 71 to join Bubba Watson and Martin Kaymer in the three-hole playoff, he had to settle for a double-bogey 7 on the 18th hole, ending up with a 73 for the round to tie for fifth.

Johnson had a one-shot lead going in to the18th hole at Whistling Straits when he hit into a bunker to the right of the fairway that was obscured by the thousands of fans walking across it all week. Having no idea he was in a bunker, he grounded his club before hitting toward the green.

Other Results at the PGA Championship at Whistling Straits

Rory McIlroy and Zach Johnson both finished at -10 tied for third, and after his painful two stroke penalty Dustin Johnson slipped into a tie for fifth with Jason Dufner and Steve Elkington at -9. Phil Mickelson shot a sparkling 67 in the fourth round on Sunday to give him a total of six under for the tourney, good enough to tie for 12th, but not good enough to cath Tiger Woods for first place on the PGA leaderboard.
