1.1% More Insolvencies in May 2010
Wiesbaden – In May 2010, German insolvency courts reported by the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) 2692 company insolvencies. These were 1.1% more than in May 2009. The number of insolvencies was in May 2010 with 8552 cases, 14.1% higher than in May 2009. Together with the insolvencies of other debtors and private estates are summed the total number of bankruptcies totaled 13,477 cases, which were 7.7% more than in May last year.
The estimated outstanding claims of creditors figured the courts for May 2010 to € 3.5 billion against 6.7 billion euros in May 2009. The decrease in receivables is due to the fact that the courts in May 2009, more bankruptcies of companies registered as economically important in May 2010.
In the months January-May 2010 13 716 insolvencies of companies (+2.7% over the same period last year) and 44 567 insolvencies of consumers (+11.8%) have been reported. Overall, the courts registered 70,125 insolvencies, which was 7.6% higher from January to May 2009.
